- After viewing the KET original videos, “Healthy Habits” and “Healthy Teeth,” have the Washing Hands and Brushing Teeth two-part game set up in a center so students can play the game and “practice” these skills.
To preschool-age children, 30 seconds can seem like hours, and two minutes an eternity. So when you ask them to wash their hands for 30 seconds or brush their teeth for two minutes, chances are they will barely make it 20 seconds on either task. However, in order for them to get the maximum health benefits from these tasks, these are the recommended times spent on each.
A great way to give students a concept of these time frames is to have them perform simulations of these tasks for the recommended amounts of time. The two-part game Healthy Me: Washing Hands and Brushing Teeth does exactly that. It is a fun, interactive way for kids to get a sense of how long thirty seconds and two minutes are so that they have a better understanding of how much time they need to spend washing their hands and brushing their teeth.
